Slimming World Chocolate Orange Mousse

Slimming World chocolate orange mousse

I made this chocolate orange mousse as a low-fat dessert, adapting the recipe from one on the Slimming World website. It is very easy to make, but needs a few hours chilling in the fridge so make it ahead of time. It works out as 4.5 syns whichever Slimming World plan you are following.

To serve 2, you need
50g dark chocolate, broken into small pieces
1 orange
2 eggs, separated
6 tbsp. artificial sweetener

Melt the chocolate either in the microwave or a bain marie and allow to cool slightly. Finely grate the zest from half the orange and peel thin strips of zest from the other half. Set aside.

Separate the eggs, and whisk the egg whites in a bowl until stiff.

In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with 4 tbsp. of the sweetener and grated orange zest and stir in the melted chocolate.  Gently fold in the egg whites until well combined.

Spoon the mixture into dessert glasses or ramekins and chill for 3-4 hours until set.

Take the strips of orange peel and put in a small pan with 200ml water and the remaining sweetener. Bring to the boil then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 mins. Drain and allow to cool. When ready to serve the mousse, decorate with the caramelised orange peel.

I'm sending this to Alphabakes, the blog challenge I host with Ros of The More Than Occasional Baker. I am hosting the challenge this month and the letter we randomly chose is O.

  1. What contains your artificial sweetener? Can it be replaced with something else? I was thinking of fructose.

    1. You can use any kind of sweetener - I usually use Splenda but have got another brand at the moment as it was on offer in the supermarket, but I can't remember the name!
